The Egg Nose

Joe Quigg balsa board from the mid-50's...with an egg nose, swallow tail, and a small, high aspect ratio fin.

Wayne Lynch transition era egg outline, with a severely pulled-in nose.

The classic "egg" nose was popularized by Skip Frye...although Joe Quigg was using a similar concept back in the mid-50's.

In effect, the egg nose is a conventional pulled-in nose with the end rounded off. But, it's more than a cosmetic design element...it has a real purpose. Like the squash nose outline, the egg nose allows a board to roll up more easily on its rail.
