What a contrast in board design in such a short time. I worked at the Rick shop when BK had those boards. He brought them over, they were glorified water skis. One was 17" wide and around 7' 8" and the other was 15" wide at 8' 0" Fins right on the tail. He would swim them out in the rip at Sunset and somehow get into the waves. He was a really strong paddler and swimmer. I heard an anecdote that someone saw him after he lost his board, swim super-hard and catch the white water of a big Sunset wave and after some seconds, pop out in front of it bodysurfing! He made probably 30% of those spectacular turns he was famous for, willing to take those beatings for the successful amazing rail turns, body almost parallel to the water and blinding speed!
