First off, thanks for the tips. As for the footage... Slick Rick is not a person but a hull. See below for some shots of this board. That particular day was very weird in terms of wave behavior. The wave would build and build but not break. There was not much vortex or water moving up the face, it just kind of stood up and it was very mushy. Lots of energy rebounding off the floor too, made for weird sensations. The board is a 6'5.5 and happens to be a very fast board, one of my fastest and most maneuverable. In the rider's defense, it was his first ride on the board, in near darkness. I ride backside so my fin placement differs a little bit too and I imagine it would be different for a regular footer. So there were a lot of factors at play, board, wave, visibility.... I just rode a 6'6 much like Slick Rick today and had the fastest rides I've ever had on a hull.

I've watched this clip a number of times and I'm a little perplexed;
Is this Slick's first session with the board?
Is it so dark he can't see?
It looks like the board is a sub 6'9" single fin hull, correct?
Does the board have an unusually deep hull?
Has he dialed the fin placement?
Whenever he goes to a forward trim the board just stops, sucking him up the face instead of planing out.
If Slick is happy with the stick, great! Read no more...
First thing I would suggest is fooling with fin placement. Suspect it is too far forward, pulling the hull down. Try moving it back.
Short hulls just don't plane out like the 7'ers. You have to keep them on a rail which means aggressive turns (bottom and cutbacks).
Maybe Slick was sleepy...To me, it just looks like he may have had a real frustrating session on some really nice waves. Just trying to be helpful...
