Stringerless Sunday

Another Stringerless Tracker from Australia, 1968.

Trackers aren't any more or less well-suited to being stringerless...there were a lot of them because the Tracker was the hot shape during the heart of the stringerless era.

This 'Scott Dillon' was shaped by Brian Ingham. (Gobs of hull!) Scott did the glass work.

7'6'' x 22" x 2.75"

Stringerless Sunday

This is a stringerless board made under the Randall label in Australia, 1968 or 1969...

Randall was located in Aspendale, Victoria...

What makes this board interesting isn't just that it's stringerless, but it's an example of the "Tracker" shape. Compared to the double ender V bottom roundtails that preceded them, Trackers had the wide point moved forward, the nose nose and tail pulled in, and the tails squared like a cut off pintail. They were, in effect, semi-gun hulls...

The Tracker outline was originally a product of the Victoria surf culture, made to suit thick, chunky waves. They came into use towards the end of the hull era, and stringerless versions were common...

Early Greenough Tracker

This is a board George shaped for Chris Brock in 1969 under the San Juan label. It's a good example of the "Tracker" outline that was becoming popular in Australia at the time.

Stringerless Sunday

Don't know much about the history of this board. It has a "Dale" label, and is said to be shaped by John Otton.

8'3'' x 23''

It's a stringerless "tracker" style shortboard. Very progressive for its era. The outline, fin placement, and hull set up all look pretty close to ideal. Maybe a bit flat, rocker-wise...but better too little than too much!

8'2'' x 23'' Tracker by Pat Morgan...nice  minimalist sticker.

Pat later went on to fame as the driving force behind the keel fin movement of the early 70's.

 Hello Paul,

I just wanted to thank you for putting out that wonderful Big Red fin together with Larry Allison a few years ago.

This fin is by far, hands down and  over the top the best fin I have ever surfed!

Rode it in a10' mcvee board Marc Andreini shaped me a few years ago, although it is marketed as his veebottom version, my boards outline reminds me more of a mctavish morey pope tracker.

I'm getting a little heavy 250lbs for the board, but she still flies, takes the highline when needed, holds and turns on a dime!

Your fin does it all!

Anyhow I mostly surf alone but got lucky with some rare cleanish waves and a camera this summer solstice.

So grateful, just wanted to share the stoke!
